The Boothbay Region Garden Club invites clubs from the Medomak District to their Annual District Meeting at the Bigelow Laboratories for Ocean Sciences in East Boothbay, on Monday, May 4th.
The speaker will be Catherine Mitchell, who will speak about studying phytoplankton using ocean color satellites.  Phytoplankton, or microalgae, supply about half of the world’s oxygen, and constitute the base for several food chains.  Although they are outside our usual concept of ‘horticulture’, they are extremely important and are well deserving of study. 

Clubs should mail their attendance roster to Sandy Abernathy, at sandra0718a@gmail.com, and collect all registration monies in advance and send by April 18th (to avoid late fee) to the Medomak District Treasurer, Beth Maxwell, 10 Union St., Wiscasset, ME  04578.

SPECIAL BONUS!  Following the meeting, Coastal Maine Botanical Gardens tours will be available at no cost to membership.  Please sign up for the CMBG tour with your registration so we can have a count for them.

Restoration: A Bringing Nature Home Guide
This presentation exploresd the vital role of backyard biodiversity and habitat restoration in supporting Maine’s native ecosystems. It highlighted the core principles of Bringing Nature Home, emphasizing the importance of native plants, ecological gardening, and sustainable landscape management. Attendees left with actionable steps to enhance their landscapes for biodiversity, contributing to a healthier environment for both people and wildlife.
2:00 Raffle drawing and self-guided tour of the Maine Maritime Museum

Cost: $30 for GCFM Club Members registering on or before April 18 th
$35 for Guests and late registrations. We  provided a buffet lunch.
