HEAR IT THROUGH THE GRAPEVINE
A Blog about Gardening in Maine
Gardening is complex…but oh so satisfying…
Do you have a question about gardening? Do you have a question about soil testing, plant choice, invasive plants, pesky insects, complementary plant placement, garden design, pruning fruit plants, cover crops, seed saving, composting, weed management or any of the many hundreds of other topics that crop up in the gardener’s mind?
If you’re looking for time-tested and validated garden-related information, follow this link to our Affiliates and Resources page.
If you just want to talk about a gardening challenge or learn native Maine gardening stories or share what you’ve experienced while gardening in Maine, the answer is ‘Grapevine Communication’ and this is the place for that.
Grapevine communication is the informal channel of communication which allows a flow of information that has not undergone the test of reliability…it’s the spontaneous exchange of information between people who share mutual interests and preferences.
Are you an experienced gardener…with special knowledge about certain gardening challenges? Would you be willing to share your experience?
Have you had a gardening experience you’d like others to know about?
If the grapevine is for you, please type in your question or comment and hopefully you’ll receive a helpful answer or discussion.

I’d like to know more about what to do to increase the chances of newly planted trees surviving the first few years.
Thanks for your question, David. I do know that Ron Ross will talk to the Boothbay Region Garden Club about apple (and maybe fruit trees) on October 8th at 2:30p.m. And perhaps other gardeners will share their knowledge about helping newly planted trees to thrive. It might help to know more about what variety of trees you’re looking to care for?
