My name is Hannah Miller, and I just wanted to send the Boothbay Region Garden Club a thank you note! I’ll be running an after school environmental education program, and I have one of my former tutoring students, Ashley (she’s 11!), helping me do some research and find materials. Together, we ended up on your site and she insisted that we tell you how much inspiration we’ve gotten from your gardening resources!
Ashley has come such a long way with her learning and confidence over the last year. She went from being a shy student without many interests to becoming a passionate advocate for environmental conservation. Gardening and exploring nature are her favorite hobbies! Not only is she participating in my upcoming program, but she’s been such a wonderful support with helping plan it, too! She gives a great perspective on what kids are actually interested in, and she’s led me to the conclusion that connecting classroom learning to real world environmental habits is by far the most effective teaching strategy.
While looking through your page (boothbayregiongardenclub.org/affiliates-and-links/ ), Ashley especially enjoyed checking out the Laidback Gardener Blog! She did notice that the link for ‘Beginner’s Guide to Earthworms’ wasn’t working anymore, so we thought it was a good idea to pass along a new resource as a possible replacement and as a chance for Ashley to connect with other gardeners, young environmentalists, and families. This is the one she picked out from her research:
It’s a fantastic, informative guide that breaks down how to properly use coffee grounds in compost and garden soil, explaining how household food waste can enrich plant life. Ashley picked it because she felt it was a great, practical resource for anyone looking to build sustainable garden habits and reduce waste at home. I couldn’t agree with her more!
Thanks again for your help! If you end up adding her suggestion, could you please let me know? She would definitely be excited to see her suggestion featured there.
