The Veterans of Foreign Wars Memorial area was cleaned out in early July and, as it’s a significant space in the front area of the Armillary Garden, it needed some new plants and loving care.
Karen Iliades, Committee Co-Chair was in Rockport and brought home the plants and, with help from husband Chris (and accompanied by 5 Monarch butterflies) installed the new garden on a gloriously sunny day. The new plants include:
1 Gentiana ‘True Blue’.
2 Campanula carp ‘White Pearl’
3. Artemisia ‘Silver Brocade’
4. Coreopsis PT ‘Red Satin’
Milk weed was growing naturally on the right side and was left intact…the butterflies were very happy with the situation.
The area also has Angelonia, an annual planted by members last Spring and a Rose of Sharon Tree (Common Hibiscus)
After clean up was completed, the area was fertilized, plants planted, Preen applied, edging done and mulch applied.
With this upgrade, the Veteran’s Memorial Garden, with the Winterberry and Magnolia extension area will be an enhancement for the Memorial Garden.
